Did the post office jack up its prices on packages over 12 inches wide/tall?

I just went to an automatic mailer and noticed they're now asking for the dimensions of the package. When I entered that my package was 15" x 12" x 2", it wanted $8 for a measly 1-lb. package being shipped from MN to LA. Absolutely nuts. Has anyone else noticed the prices being jacked up? I think previously I might have paid like $4.50 for such a package. That's a pretty absurd increase in a few months.
