Why do US automakers do so poorly in the European pickup truck market?

Because in Europe the pickup truck isn't a sign of macho like it is among American males. Of the roughly three hundred men who own pickups and work where I do, not one NEEDS a pickup truck. What little hauling any of them does can be accomplished by renting a small U-Haul trailer once or twice a year...European males are content to make do with bicycles except during the bitterest of cold weather, to use public transport and to go on days-long hikes on vacation. There are plenty of autos in Europe, but they aren't worshiped like here in the USA...
